A Finksburg man is being held without bond for allegedly assaulting a juvenile then threatening police with knives.
According to charging documents, family members told police the man may have been dealing with a mental health crisis.
Christopher Matthew Maddox, 20, of the 700 block of Nadines Court, is charged with second-degree assault, according to electronic court files. He was initially held on $10,000 bond, but at a bail review Monday in the District Court of Maryland, a judge ordered him held without bond.
A Carroll County sheriff's deputy was sent to Maddox's residence around 11 p.m. Friday for a report of an assault and met with witnesses who reported Maddox allegedly assaulted a juvenile and left the residence with two kitchen knives, according to charging documents.
The alleged victim told the deputy Maddox hit him with a broom handle then with a closed fist, according to the documents. Another deputy found Maddox in the driveway holding the two knives and asking that police shoot him, according to the documents. Maddox refused to drop the knives and a deputy deployed a Taser, allowing Maddox to be taken into custody.
Maddox's family members said he had mental health issues and did not take his medication on the day of the incident, according to the documents. Maddox was taken to Carroll Hospital Center before being transported to the detention center's central booking unit.
