Charges dropped against Taneytown man for sex abuse of a minor

Charges levied against a Taneytown man for sexual abuse of a minor were dismissed last week after a District Court judge did not find probable cause to proceed at a preliminary hearing.

John Chester Jordan Jr., 24, of the unit block of Frederick Street, was charged with sex abuse of a minor, second- and third-degree sex offense, and related charges June 17, according to court records.

The charges were dismissed July 16, according to electronic court files.

Cases involving felonies are forwarded to the Circuit Court for Carroll County for prosecution if probable cause for the felonies is established in the District Court, Senior Assistant State's Attorney Amy Blank Ocampo said.

In this case, the judge did not find probable cause based on the evidence presented, Ocampo said.
