Westminster man allegedly assaulted victim, stole belongings

A Westminster man is charged with robbery for allegedly assaulting a man and taking his property early Monday morning.

Jeffrey Allan Johnson, 20, of the 900 block of Old Westminster Pike, is charged with robbery, second-degree assault and theft, according to electronic court files.

Johnson is being held at the Carroll County Detention Center on $20,000 bond.

A Westminster Police Department officer was patrolling at about 1:30 a.m. when he met with a Maryland State Police trooper who said he had just spoken with a man who reported being assaulted and robbed, according to charging documents.

The officer met with the alleged victim, who said he was sleeping on a bench near the Longwell Garage when he woke up to a man he identified as Johnson punching him in the face, according to the documents.

The alleged victim said Johnson took his shirt that was laying nearby, as well as his hat, shoes and cellphone, before fleeing, according to the documents. He was taken to Carroll Hospital after he complained of pain in his face.

On Monday afternoon, police showed the victim a photo array and he identified Johnson as the man who assaulted and robbed him, according to the documents.

Johnson was arrested Monday, according to electronic court files.
