The Carroll County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a Hampstead woman whose body was found in the snow Sunday.
The woman's identity is being withheld until police can notify her family, said Cpl. Jonathan Light, a spokesman for the sheriff's office.
Deputies were called to the 800 block of Wellesley Court early Sunday morning, where they found an adult woman lying in the snow-covered road, according to the sheriff's office. She was declared dead at the scene.
The body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy, Light said.
Police are waiting for the results of the autopsy before declaring a cause of death, he said.
As of 5 p.m. Sunday, no additional details were being released, according to Light. He could not say if the investigation would be hampered by the weekend's snowstorm.
