A Sykesville man is facing two prostitution charges after police in Anne Arundel County allege he arranged to meet with an undercover officer online and solicited sexual activity in exchange for payment last fall.
Craig Ellis Dawkins, 49, of the 4800 block of Bernard Drive, is charged with two counts of prostitution in the District Court for Anne Arundel County. He was served with an arrest warrant in Carroll County on Monday, taken to the Carroll County Detention Center for processing and released on his own recognizance.
An Anne Arundel County officer was posing as a prostitute with an advertisement on a website under the adult escort section in November 2014, according to charging documents. The advertisement included a phone number and photographs.
During the operation, the female officer spoke on the phone with Dawkins and arranged to meet him at a hotel in Linthicum, according to the documents. Once at the hotel, Dawkins and the officer allegedly discussed the amount of time involved as well as sexual acts and cost, according to the charging documents.
A surveillance team monitored the exchange and saw Dawkins place money inside the room and heard the conversation, according to the documents. He was detained by police and photographs were taken of the money, according to the documents.
