Police arrest one, seeking three others after chase involving stolen van

Police have charged one person and are searching for at least three others in connection with the theft of a U-Haul van and a subsequent police chase from Eldersburg into Baltimore County.

A Carroll County Sheriff's deputy patrolling the Eldersburg area early Thursday morning encountered the cargo van, which was had been reported stolen in Baltimore City, and attempted a traffic stop near the intersection of Md. 26 and Md. 32, according to a news release from the Sheriff's Office. When the driver of the van didn't stop, the deputy pursued the vehicle east on Md. 26 into Baltimore County, where Baltimore County police joined the pursuit, according to a news release.

The pursuit ended in the area of Deer Park Road in Baltimore County when at least four people fled the cargo van on foot. Police found one of the suspects, Rodney Terence Cooper, 40, of Baltimore, and took him into custody, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Cooper is expected to be charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and he is also a suspect in other Baltimore County incidents, according to police, and additional charges are expected to be filed there.
