Union Bridge man charged with assault and threatening arson

A Union Bridge man was arrested Thursday on charges of assault and threats of arson.

Brian Allen Douglas, 26, of the unit block of North Farquhar Street, is charged with one count each of second-degree assault, malicious destruction of property valued at $1,000, intoxicated endangerment and a threat of arson, according to electronic court files.

The charges stem from a call received by the Carroll County Sheriff's Office at 10:18 p.m. Thursday, according to charging documents, when a woman told the responding deputy that Douglas had come to her home in Union Bridge, spat on her, kicked holes in her walls, and threatened to light a blanket on fire and use it to burn down her home.

Douglas denied the woman's allegations when police found him at his home, according to charging documents. Douglas allegedly smelled strongly of alcohol and his eyes were "bloodshot and glassy," according to police observations in the charging documents.

Calls placed to the phone number listed as belonging to Douglas returned a message that the number had been changed or disconnected.

Douglas was arrested and taken to Carroll County Central Booking on Thursday, according to electronic court files, and was released Friday on his own recognizance.

A court hearing is scheduled for 8:45 a.m. April 5 in Carroll County District Court.
