Westminster Police said a 51-year-old man was taken to the Carroll Hospital Center for treatment and evaluation Sunday afternoon after what the department called a “behavioral emergency” and barricade situation.
Police arrived at the 800 block of Ewing Drive in Westminster at about 11:15 a.m. where they found the man had “several edged weapons,” a news release said. He threatened the officers with the weapons, then and barricaded himself in a room, according to police.
The other occupants of the residence got out unharmed, the release said, then police requested help from the Carroll County Crisis Response Team to bring the incident to a peaceful resolution.
The team, along with negotiators, arrived and began to communicate with the man. At approximately 2:05 p.m. with negotiations continuing and the subject continuing to threaten law enforcement, the team used “less lethal tools” to end the barricade, police said.
The man was taken into custody at about 2:20 p.m. Police said no lethal force was needed to resolve the situation.
