The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of a fire in an apartment building in the 100 block of E. Green Street in Westminster on Saturday. One emergency responder was injured.
The first call went out about 40 minutes after midnight after the fire was discovered by a passerby.
The Westminster fire company was the primary responding department. Approximately 30 firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in about 30 minutes, according to a notice of investigation from the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
In the course of responding to the incident, a paramedic and firefighter was injured with a laceration to the the hand. He was transported to Carroll Hospital, treated and then released, according to the notice.
The estimated cost of the damage to the structure and contents of the building is about $50,000.
The fire is believed to have started in the bedroom on the second floor, and the cause remains under investigation.
