A Taneytown man was arrested Thursday in relation to a theft charge totaling more than $20,000, police said.
Randy Stonesifer, 46, of the 4300 block of Stumptown Road, was charged with one count of a felony theft scheme having a value of at least $1,500 but less than $25,000. He was released on $3,000 bail Friday, according to electronic court records.
According to the statement of charges, an officer of the Westminster Police Department contacted a Westminster woman on June 21 in reference to an alleged fraud. She said an individual had used her account information to remove $21,000 from her account.
Police later made contact with Stonesifer, who admitted he removed the money from the account but said he had permission from the woman to use the account, according to the statement.
The woman said she had not given him permission and that he obtained her account information by going through her purse, according to the statement.
A summons was issued July 6. An arrest warrant was issued Sept. 7 following a failure to appear and served Thursday, according to electronic court records.
No telephone number was listed for Stonesifer in charging documents. A court date is scheduled for April 30.
