A Westminster man was charged with first-degree assault following an altercation on Thursday night.
Christopher Lee Raines, 31, of the 100 block of E. Green Street, was charged with one count each of first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, intoxicated endangerment and second-degree assault.
He was being held without bond following a Friday bail review, according to electronic court records.
According to the statement of probable cause, Westminster police responded to a residence just before midnight on Thursday. A woman told police that she and Raines became involved in an argument. She described him as intoxicated.
During the argument, she told police Raines placed his arm around her neck in a chokehold and she could not breathe for 3 to 5 seconds. Police observed redness to her neck and she reported having headaches, according to the statement.
Police spoke to Raines, who did not give an account of the incident. Police observed an odor of alcohol and glassy eyes, according to the statement.
Court dates are scheduled for Nov. 7 and 9.
