A Westminster man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly injured and restrained a woman.
Samuel Wayne Mooshian, 37, of the unit block of Liberty Street, was charged with second-degree assault and false imprisonment. He is being held without bail following a Thursday bail review, according to electronic court records.
According to the statement of charges, several officers of the Westminster Police Department responded Wednesday afternoon to a report of an assault in progress. Upon arrival they heard a man and woman yelling. The woman's yelling indicated that she required assistance.
The door to the residence was slightly ajar and officers entered. They observed a man, identified as Mooshian, holding his arm around a woman's neck and forcing her to remain seated in a chair, according to the statement.
After ordering Mooshian to release the woman, police spoke to her. She said that an earlier argument became physical when Mooshian threw her down and placed his knee on her stomach, not allowing her to get up. The woman was pregnant, according to the statement.
She later attempted to leave the residence and he grabbed her and forced her back inside, pulling her hair, biting her and restricting her breathing by putting his hand over her mouth in an attempt to stop her from calling for assistance, according to the statement.
Officers observed injury to he forehead, bleeding scratches to her neck and fresh marks on her arms, according to the statement.
A court date is scheduled for June 27.
