A Baltimore man was arrested in Hampstead Saturday, Dec. 15, after he was caught driving a vehicle that had been reported stolen, police say.

Khalil Rich, 19, of the 3000 block of Dudley Avenue, has been charged with theft $1,500 to $25,000, unlawful removal of property, unlawful removal of a motor vehicle and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, according to electronic court records. Rich was released on his own recognizance.

Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputies pulled over a red Chevrolet Impala on Saturday after the driver committed a traffic violation, police say.

Rich told deputes that he didn’t have his license on him because it had been confiscated by his parents, police wrote in a statement of probable cause.

Sheriff’s deputies ran the North Carolina tags and discovered the car was reported stolen from Baltimore County, police wrote.

Rich was arrested as a result, but told deputies that he borrowed the vehicle from a friend, the statement shows.

He could not immediately be reached for comment Monday.

Rich has a court date scheduled for Feb. 26, according to the records.
