A Sykesville woman was arrested Thursday, Dec. 13, after she admitted to burglarizing a Westminster home, police said.
Jennifer Susan Read, 34, of the block address of Gaither Manor Drive, was charged with one count each of first-degree burglary, theft between $100 and $1,500, and malicious destruction of property valued at more than $1,000. She is being held without bond as of 3 p.m. Friday, according to electronic court records.
According to the statement of probable cause, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call reporting a burglary in Westminster shortly before 9 a.m. Thursday.
The deputy who responded to the call said the frame of the door where the locking mechanism was held was shattered, and “it was apparent someone had made entry into the residence.”
The caller suggested Read as a possible suspect, saying she is a known drug user and has stolen from the victim before, according to the statement.
When Read was asked by Carroll County Sheriff's Office personnel if she had broken into the home, the report states she admitted she did, and said she owed a man money so she stole approximately $100.
