A Manchester man has been charged with assault and burglary after allegedly forcing his way into a Manchester home Tuesday.

Scott D. Jarriel, 19, of the 3200 block of Main St., is charged with one count each of second-degree assault, fourth-degree burglary, possession of a concealed, dangerous weapon, possession of a weapon on school property and intoxicated endangerment, according to electronic court records.

At about 7:20 Tuesday evening, Manchester police respond to a home on the 3200 block of York St. for a call of a disorderly person, according to charging documents. Witnesses there told police that Jarriel had been knocking on both the back door and front door of the residence, and that Jarriel then allegedly pushed the front door open and pushed a man in the home who had been responding to the door — knocking that man to the floor.

When asked to leave, Jarriel allegedly exited to the home’s front porch and began yelling, according to the witness accounts in the charging documents.

While police were interviewing witnesses at the home, Jarriel was seen and then detained on the nearby grounds of Manchester Elementary School, according to charging documents. Police alleged in the documents that Jarrier’s breath smelled of alcohol and that his speech was slurred. He allegedly told police he had some “shots” before coming to the home and that he had never entered the home.

Police arrested Jarriel at about 7:45 p.m. on charges of assault and burglary, according to charging documents, and while searching him allegedly uncovered two small — 50 milliliter — bottles of peach-flavored vodka and a green, five-inch-long folding knife on his person, the latter of which led to the additional weapons charges.

Jarriel was taken to central booking and then released on his own recognizance Wednesday, according to electronic court records, and he is next due in Carroll County District Court on March 10.

A call placed to the number on record for Jarriel on Thursday afternoon to request a comment was not returned, and a voicemail for that number was not set up. No attorney was listed for Jarriel in electronic court records.
