A Hampstead man, Zachary Tylor Hollingsworth, 31, was charged with one count of second-degree assault after being arrested Sunday. He was released on $2,500 bail following a Monday bail review, according to electronic court records.

According to the statement of probable cause, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to a dispute on June 9 at a Hampstead residence. Deputies made contact with Hollingsworth, who said he and a woman had both become intoxicated and gotten into a physical altercation.

Deputies then spoke to the woman. While awaiting medical treatment, the woman said Hollingsworth and her were in a disagreement that turned physical when he applied pressure to her neck from behind, causing her to have difficulty breathing. He then picked her up and slammed her to the ground, causing her head to strike the floor and her hand to be caught under her body, she said. A deputy observed the woman to have swelling to her hand and a “significant amount” of blood around her face, according to the statement.

The woman was transported to Carroll Hospital after responding EMS personnel deemed it necessary, according to the statement.
