A Baltimore woman has been charged with assault and bodily fluid contamination following Sunday incident involving a flung tampon in the Carroll County Detention Center.
Dawn Michelle Gress, 31, of the 1500 block of Union Avenue, Baltimore, is charged with one count of second degree assault and one count of an inmate causing contamination with bodily fluids, according to electronic court records.
Gress has been held at the detention center since being arrested April 21 on unrelated charges and at around 7:20 a.m. Sunday morning, had been escorted from a holding cell to a bathroom in order to dispose of a used tampon, according to charging documents.
Gress allegedly threw the tampon instead, striking a correctional officer in the chest and contaminating his uniform, according to charging documents — the officer was not injured.
Gress has a trial for these charges scheduled for July 11, according to electronic court records.
