Westminster man faces assault charges after alleged incident involving a rifle, police say

A Westminster man is facing four charges, including assault, after an alleged incident involving a rifle, police said.

Kristopher Keene Gooding, 28, of the 300 block of Logan Drive, is charged with second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, intoxicated endanger and disorderly conduct, according to electronic court records. He was released the same day as his arrest on his own recognizance.

According to charging documents, officers from the Westminster Police Department spoke Sunday night to a man who said he was walking past the residence where Gooding lives and heard a “bang noise,” looked up and saw Gooding holding a rifle. He then said his left ankle had been injured and told officers Gooding was the individual who injured him. Officers wrote that they observed injuries to the man’s left ankle.

Three witnesses told police they had observed the aforementioned events and had heard him yelling threats, according to charging documents.

A hearing is scheduled for Aug. 3, according to electronic records.
