A Westminster man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly grabbed a woman by the neck.
Jordan Stewart Flanders, 18, of the 900 block of Powder Horn Court, was charged with one count each of first-degree assault, second-degree assault and malicious destruction of property valued less than $1,000. He is being held without bond following a Wednesday bail review, according to electronic court records.
According to the statement of probable cause, Carroll County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a residence and spoke to a woman who said she and Flanders entered into an argument when she asked him to leave her property and he refused.
She believed Flanders to have a gun on his person, which he then threw into a field during the argument. Police later determined that the object was a BB gun that appeared like a handgun due to the absence of a safety tip.
During the argument, the woman said she was blocking the entrance to the residence as Flanders attempted to force entry. First, he grabbed her by the wrist. Then he pulled her and grabbed her by the neck, choking her until bystanders intervened. Deputies observed visible redness in the area of her neck, according to the statement.
She then went inside the residence and locked the door. When police arrived, they found that the door had been smashed, but Flanders had left. He was located nearby and taken into custody.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 25.
