A Union Bridge man was arrested late Thursday night after allegedly choking and slapping a woman.

Dennis Howard Estepp Jr., of the 100 block of Main St. in Union Bridge, was charged with one count of second-degree assault. He was held without bond as of 9:30 a.m. Friday.

According to the statement of probable cause, Estepp strangled a woman and slapped her in the face. A witness reported hearing the woman “struggling for air” and trying to call for help.

The victim had two small bruises on one side of her neck and one long bruise on the other side of her neck, the statement said.

Estepp did not have an attorney listed as of 9:30 a.m. Friday. A court date has been set for June 12.
