Around 2:30 a.m. April 13, outside a residence in Sykesville, a 31-year-old man from Finksburg arrived and began “verbally threatening” Martin and his juvenile daughter, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Martin allegedly fired the crossbow, striking the victim in the left forearm.

The victim was transported to the hospital for his injuries, according to the news release.

Sheriff Jim DeWees said he had never seen a crossbow used or allegedly used in any other incidents in Carroll County.

“In the hands of someone that knows how to use one it’s very accurate and deadly!” DeWees wrote in a text message.

Martin did not have an attorney listed in online court records. He was released on his own recognizance after a bail review hearing, court records show.
