Westminster man charged with assaulting teenage minor

A Westminster man is being held Thursday after being charged with assaulting a teenage minor.

Douglas Lee Caltrider, 36, of the 300 block of 39th St. in Westminster, is charged with one count each of second-degree assault and second-degree child abuse, according to electronic court records.

According to charging documents, on Wednesday the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office began investigating a possible assault that allegedly took place on Tuesday at a home in Westminster.

Police interviewed the teenager and noted bruising around their left eye, according to charging documents.

According to charging documents, the teenager and another minor witness said the teenager and Caltrider were arguing Tuesday when Caltrider slapped the teenager across the face multiple times.

The teen victim showed police a video that appeared to show Caltrider with a raised hand, preparing to “strike down” on the teen, according to charging documents.

Caltrider told police that he had slapped the teenager for “disrespecting him,” according to charging documents.

Caltrider was arrested Wednesday afternoon and taken to Carroll County Central Booking, where he is being held on a $5,000 bail, according to electronic court records.

No attorney was listed for Caltrider in electronic court records. A preliminary court date for Caltrider is scheduled for April 24.
