According to the statement of charges, Miller & Sons Inc. contacted the Manchester Police Department after a container of scrap copper was stolen from a garage. Surveillance video showed a man breaking a glass window and entering the garage on March 16. He then left with a hand truck and a container holding about 250 pounds of scrap copper as well as an additional unknown amount of copper, according to the statement.

Police began canvassing nearby and discovered the missing hand truck at a residence on Main Street, according to the statement. The occupant of the residence said her neighbor, whom she identified as Charles, had permission to use her stairs. At Charles’ residence, police made contact with Charles and another woman, whom they identified by their driver’s licenses, according to the statement.

Database information accessed by police showed that Charles had scrapped 103 pounds of copper at one recycling center on March 16 and 137 pounds at another recycling center about a half-hour later on the same day. The copper was consistent with that taken from Miller & Sons, according to the statement.

No phone number or attorney were listed for Charles in court records. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 24.
