Westminster man faces first- and second-degree assault charges

A Westminster man was arrested Monday after allegedly assaulting someone.

Michael Anthony Butcher, 35, of the 60 block of South Colonial Avenue, was charged with one count each of second- and first-degree assault. He was being held without bond as of Thursday, according to electronic records.

According to the statement of charges, Butcher allegedly choked the victim for about five seconds and grabbed their phone.

Police found the victim to have redness in their throat area, redness to their right upper arm and scratch-type injuries on their right upper arm but not bleeding. The victim also claimed they were pushed by Butcher, according to the statement of charges.

Neither Butcher nor his public defender could be reached for comment Thursday.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 25.
