A Westminster man was arrested Sunday after police allegedly found suspected heroin and cocaine in his possession.

Michael Anthony Benbow, 47, of the 100 block of Stoner Avenue, was charged with one count of possession of narcotics with intent to distribute and seven other charges related to drugs. He was held without bail following a Monday bail review, according to electronic court records.

A Maryland State Police trooper pulled over an Oldsmobile Cutlass on Sunday, Feb. 3, for driving out of compliance with Maryland Historical Registration restrictions, according to the statement of probable cause. A passenger in the vehicle was later identified as Benbow.

Benbow identified himself to police by a different name. The trooper observed blood on his hand and leg “consistent with intravenous drug use,” according to the statement. Benbow said the substance was chocolate.

The trooper called for a K-9 to scan the vehicle for contraband. The dog alerted positively and police searched the vehicle. They found a container with trace amounts of suspected heroin, a wallet identifying Benbow, glass vials containing suspected crack cocaine, a cap containing trace suspected heroin, a “crack pipe,” 7.8 grams of suspected cocaine, three containers of suspected heroin and a bag containing four pills.

Benbow said he had given a false identity because of an active warrant for failure to appear, according to the statement.

Police believed the amount and packaging of the drugs sufficient to indicate an intent to distribute, according to the statement.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 1.
