Westminster-area public schools are resuming normal operations after a threat of a shooter was investigated by police and found to be non-credible.
The principal of William Winchester Elementary School received a call Tuesday morning stating there was someone with a gun on the roof of the school who would start shooting, according to Col. Larry Suther of the Carroll County Sheriff's Office.
William Winchester and West Middle School were initially placed on lockdown and Westminster Elementary School and East Middle School were also placed on lockdown as a precaution, according to messages sent to parents at the schools.
Deputies responded to conduct a methodical search of the area and a Maryland State Police helicopter conducted an aerial search of the roof of William Winchester and nearby schools, Suther said. No threat was found.
Investigators are still on scene trying to determine the source of the threat, according to Suther.
