On the count of three, Manchester volunteer firefighter Andrew Eppley and emergency medical technician/firefighter Lauren Pirchalski raced each other to put on their gear as the audience cheered Wednesday morning. The duo were some of the emergency personnel who talked to more than 120 people at the North Carroll branch of the Carroll County Public Library in observation of Fire Prevention Week.

There's no way around it, lung cancer is a tough challenge. It may not be the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States, but it is particularly deadly, according to Dr. Randy Becker, a radiologist who practices at Advanced Radiology in Westminster.
