A Sykesville motorcyclist was killed Tuesday after a crash with an SUV in Howard County.

Nicholas Richard Moulthrop, 30, of Sykesville, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from the Howard County Police.

The collision occurred at approximately 5:08 p.m. Tuesday, May 12, when Moulthrop's 2015 Kawasaki Ninja 1000 motorcycle was traveling south on Md. 32, in the area of Livestock Road, when it collided with a 2010 Jeep Liberty. The Jeep was making a left turn onto northbound Md. 32 from eastbound Livestock Road when the collision occurred, according to the news release.

The driver of the Jeep was identified as Stuart Mark Stein, 65, of Gwynn Oak. He was transported to Howard County General Hospital and is currently listed in stable condition, according to the news release.

Preliminary investigation and witness accounts showed the Kawasaki was traveling at a high rate of speed just prior to the collision, according to police.

Md. 32 between Md. 99 and Intersate 70 was closed for approximately four hours with the assistance of the Maryland State Highway Administration CHART team.

Patrolman First Class Mark Reid of the Traffic Enforcement Section of the Howard County Police is handling the investigation, according to the news release.
