Nearly 100 people filled the Carroll County Arts Center May 11 to take part in the Community Media Center's 2012 Vollie Awards presentation. Since 1991, this event has recognized the efforts of Carroll County's community television producers as well as their counterparts at the Board of Education, Carroll County government, local colleges and municipalities.

Vollie awards were presented to producers of exceptional television programming that aired between January 2010 and December 2011 on Carroll's public, education and government (PEG) cable channels 18, 19, 21, 23 and 24. The following winners were chosen by a panel of independent judges.

Best Arts/Entertainment Program: Today's Poet, Tina Richardson

Best Informational or Instructional Program: Your Opinion Matters, Lyn and Lee Mallick

Best Documentary: Time's Crossroads, Frank Batavick

Best History Project Interview: Interview with Wasyl Palijczuk, Andrea Shalal

Best Narrative Short Program: Mara, Erik Yount, Alden Bradstock, Jeff McIlvan

Best Religious Program: The Joyful Sound, Mike Armacost

Best Public Service Announcement: Save Your Brain PSA, Coalition Against Underage Drinking, Beth Keller, Natalie Phillips, Carol Mullen

Best PEG Production: A Great Place to Play: 40 Years of Rec & Parks, Carroll County Government, Chris Swam

Best Programming for/by Youth: Follies of Youth, Matt Roe

Best Music Video: Steps by Willet, Kevin Carmack

Best Musical Program: Deer Creek Fiddler's Convention, Gerry Wiseman

The following special recognitions were given to individuals who demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the goals and mission of the Community Media Center. Two individuals were honored as "Volunteer of the Year," Pete Nickolas and Chris Bradford. "History Project Volunteer of the Year" was presented to Ann Horvath and "Board Member of the Year," to Leo Eaton. Kathy Gambrill received "Best Historical Series" for her work on "Sykesville, I remember that!" and a special memorial tribute honored the dedication of Barbara Oremland and Bob Gibson.
