Fire marshal's office: Smoking near oxygen supply was cause of burn injury in Westminster

The Maryland Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a burn injury that occurred at a Westminster apartment Wednesday, Jan. 16.

A man was in his kitchen smoking with an oxygen supply at about 4:40 p.m. Wednesday, according to the fire marshal’s notice of investigation.

The 58-year-old man was transported to the burn center at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center with burn injuries that weren’t life-threatening, the notice details.

Six fire officials from the Westminster volunteer fire company responded to the incident, the notice details.

The fire marshal estimates there was $50 in damage and said any fire was “extinguished upon arrival.”
