A lightning strike caused a house fire Thursday evening in Westminster, according to the state fire marshal’s office.
The Hampstead Volunteer Fire Department was the primary responding unit to the fire in the 200 block of Opal Avenue in a two-story wood frame dwelling at about 7 p.m., according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. No one was injured.
The report from the fire marshal states there was an estimated $50,000 in damages to the structure. It took about 50 firefighters approximately 30 minutes to control the flames, which originated on the roof and were caused by a lightning strike, the fire marshal’s office reported.
The Red Cross was requested to assist the occupants of the house, the fire marshal’s office said.
