Residents were displaced after a kitchen fire in a Westminster duplex on Saturday. No injuries were reported.
The first call for the fire went out at 10:32 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8. The occupant of the two-story wood framed duplex in the 100 block of Pennsylvania Avenue was not home at the time of the fire, which investigators believe originated in the kitchen. A smoke alarm was present and activated, according to a notice of investigation from the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
The cause remains under investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Estimated structure and content losses are $11,000, according to a notice of investigation.
Occupants of a nearby residence were displaced due to smoke and assisted by the American Red Cross.
According to the notice, an officer of the Westminster Police Department discovered the fire. Approximately 30 firefighters were able to control the fire in 15 minutes and Westminster volunteer fire company was the primary responder.
