‘A highlight of the summer’: Downtown Westminster to host annual Beer & BBQ Stroll Saturday

Westminster will host its annual Beer & BBQ Stroll, featuring live entertainment, beer-related vendors, and barbecued food, Saturday afternoon.

The Beer & BBQ Stroll is the most recent addition to a yearlong series of “strolls” that the city sponsors. They include the Wine Stroll in April and the Oyster Stroll in October. The Oyster Stroll, which was designed to raise awareness about the importance of oyster aquaculture, kicked off the series several years ago according to City Council member Tony Chiavacci.

“It was the first stroll and it became much more of a party/fun event,” he said. “Now, they’re all very similar, in terms of closing down Main Street and having people walk around with alcohol within the footprint of the event.”

Westminster Mayor Mona Becker said the strolls help to showcase the city each season.

“Seeing the streets packed with people, and enjoying their day is a highlight of the summer,” Becker said.

The stroll will take place from noon to 4 p.m., along Main Street, rain or shine. General admission tickets can be purchased at the event Saturday for $10. One token for the redemption of a free alcoholic or nonalcoholic beverage is included.

VIP tickets cost $175 and include beer samples, one-hour early access to the event and an assigned table with seating for up to six guests. All other beverages and food are purchased separately.

Scheduled to perform are Liberty Road, Late Night Record Shop, Dodson’s Creek and Lima Bean Riot.

Chiavacci said the annual event has grown to become one of the most popular events in the city.

“It appeals to a huge section of folks, both in Carroll County and well beyond,” Chiavacci said. “I’m guessing it will be another huge event: great community, food, beer and live music, all while strolling along our wonderful Main Street. What more can you ask for?”
