Human Services Programs of Carroll County Inc. is extending its dates of operation past the usual April 15 deadline to help people file their taxes through its tax preparation program.
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance, or VITA, program is sponsored by the IRS as a way to help lower income people file their taxes for free — anyone who made less than $55,000 in 2018 may use the VITA program.
The VITA program usually closes on Tax Day, Monday, April 15, but HSP announced in a Friday news release that the program would remain open past the deadline because of complications some filers are facing because of changes in the tax laws.
The VITA program will now be open 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 16 through 18, and again from April 22 through 26, according to the release.
Those interested should call 410-386-6653 to make an appointment or go by the VITA program office at 10 Distillery Drive, Suite G-1, in Westminster.
