After rainouts, veterans again invited to flagpole dedication Saturday

After three previous attempts were rained out, a flagpole dedication ceremony intended to honor veterans, particularly veterans of World War II, will take place Saturday afternoon in Westminster.

The WW II Veterans Plitt Flagpole Dedication will be held at 2 p.m. at 707 Wheatley Drive in Westminster, just off Lucabaugh Mill Road, near the intersection with Md. 27, and all veterans of World War II are invited to attend

The site is being donated by Charlotte and Charles Wheatley, and family and friends, in honor of an 18-year-old Bronze Star Medal recipient, Technical Sgt. Calvin E. Plitt, and all of his World War II comrades-in-arms.

“We have a one-hour program planned with veteran introductions, Sousa marches, patriots in costume on stilts, the flagpole dedication, and a look at the meaning of patriotism,” Wheatley wrote in an email.
