Nominations accepted for Sykesville Mayor and Town Council March 25

Nominations for the Sykesville Mayor and Town Council will be accepted at the body’s Monday, March 25, meeting.

The town announced this week that three council member positions are up for election, and all available positions will serve four-year terms.


To run for office any nominee must be a resident of the Town of Sykesville for at least one year immediately preceding the election and a registered voter in Carroll County.

At the meeting, the nominee must have a person make a motion for nomination and another person second the motion — and all participants must be registered to vote in the Town of Sykesville, states the public notice.

“It is recommended that you register to vote by March 18 if you plan on running,” the notice continues. “If you are not on the list of registered voters by the night of nominations, you will not be allowed to accept the nomination until the Town can verify you have registered to vote.”

A person nominated for elected office may accept the nomination by signing a certificate of acceptance before the close of the Mayor and Town Council meeting on April 8.
