This year the town of Sykesville hosted its first townwide summer bingo scavenger hunt, and the mayor selected two random winners this week.
The two winners were local resident Stacie Morris, who played the game with her kids Abigail and Bobby, and Daniel Smith, chef and owner of It’s All Good Catering.
“There were only four people who turned [bingo cards] in,” said Sykesville Town Clerk Kerry Chaney at this week’s Mayor and Town Council meeting, “but there were more people playing. We hope that it will catch on next year.”
Chaney is the mind behind the summer game, which is a combination scavenger hunt-bingo.
“Some of the spaces are: ‘take a picture of yourself at one of our parks,’ ‘take a picture with one of the police officers’ to help promote community policing, ‘visit one of the merchants or restaurants we have on Main Street,’ ” Chaney explained last month.
“Also,” she said, “we have little free libraries around town that a lot of people didn’t know about before.”
The winners will receive a gift card that can be used at any establishment on Main Street.
Morris said she already knows how she will use it.
“I have told the kids we will use it to get ice cream!” she said Thursday. “The best part [about this game] is spending time with my children and learning about our town.”
Smith was not available for comment Thursday.
