Snow fell Sunday morning and afternoon on Carroll County in what was expected to be a prelude to a larger storm, meaning plow trucks were on the road and residents were shoveling paths or doing some sledding.
A winter storm warning is in effect until Tuesday at 6 a.m. Freezing rain and some 6 inches of snow were being predicted for the region by the National Weather Service.
Carroll County government will be closed Monday. Carroll Community College canceled classes for Monday and a McDaniel College spokesperson said a decision for its campus would be made by 6 a.m.
Carroll County Public Schools are closed, but it has nothing to do with the weather. Monday was already a scheduled day off for the end of the marking period.
Hampstead Mayor Christopher Nevin declared a state of emergency for the town, saying in a news release, “We will be relying heavily on our resources for this emergency and are being cautious and are as prepared as possible for the impending storm.”
