South Carroll High School celebrates 55th class of graduates

About 240 seniors at South Carroll High School in Sykesville crossed the stage at McDaniel College’s Gill Center in Westminster Tuesday morning for the school’s graduation ceremony.

“The 55th class of Cavaliers… has come together to form a close-knit group that will remember their unique high school experiences,” Principal Christina Dougherty said.

Dougherty said that after learning from home during the pandemic, students “returned to academics, athletics, drama and extra-curricular activities in full-spirited force. Their school spirit and collaboration will be remembered fondly.”

According to school officials, during their time at South Carroll High, the Class of 2022 committed 35,000 service-learning hours to the school and community.

About 76% of the graduating class has chosen to continue their education at a two- or four-year institution of higher learning; 10% will enter the workforce directly after graduation; and 10% will enter a trade/technical school or apprenticeship.

As a whole, the class received about $5.4 million in scholarship money.
