The House of Delegates Republican Caucus re-elected caucus leadership earlier this week. House Republican leaders chose to appoint Del. Haven Shoemaker, R-District 5, to minority parliamentarian, effective immediately.

A parliamentarian is responsible for the proper procedures for the conduct of meetings and deliberative assemblies. Shoemaker will also assist in the drafting and interpretation of bylaws and rules of order.

In addition, House Speaker Michael Busch appointed Shoemaker to the Joint Committee for Administrative, Executive and Legislative Review. This committee oversees proposed state agency regulations, existing state regulations and emergency energy executive orders. The committee is composed of 20 appointed delegates and senators that work with a small board of members from the Department of Legislative Services.

In a news release from his office, Shoemaker said he is “grateful to be serving and representing the people in both capacities.”
