Baltimore Sheriff’s Office car catches fire in Eldersburg

A Baltimore City Sheriff’s Office car caught fire in Eldersburg, but the Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department extinguished it and no one was injured.

The incident took place shortly after noon on Friday, July 31 as the 2017 Chevrolet Caprice police patrol vehicle was traveling on Liberty Road when the deputy who was driving heard a pop from the rear of the vehicle.

The deputy pulled into the parking lot of 2030 Liberty Road and observed smoke filling the vehicle. The use of portable fire extinguishers was attempted to put the fire out but was not successful.

It took about five minutes for five members of the the Sykesville fire company to put out the fire. The estimated loss was $20,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
