December is traditionally the season of giving but with the month nearly half over already, members of the Taneytown Police Department have stepped up their game. After every member participated in No Shave November, they decided to continue their good works with “Beards 4 Hope,” a follow-up event to No Shave November.

The first event as part of Beards 4 Hope is “Pack the Police Car.”

It will take place Sunday, Dec. 16, in the Food Lion and Kennie’s Market parking lots, from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. Food Lion is located at 511 East Baltimore Street. Kennie’s Market is located at 11 Grand Drive.

Officers will be on hand to accept donations of non-perishable food and personal hygiene items. They are hoping to fill as many police cars as they can so come out to donate what you can and cheer them on!

Pvt. Steven Sakadales, a 10-year veteran of the Taneytown Police force said, “We decided to keep it local. The food donations will go to local food banks and organizations that support local families in need. We plan to continue No Shave November and Beards 4 Hope as annual events.

“The Pack the Police Car event is a way to partner with businesses in Taneytown. During the event, community members will be able to connect with officers outside of the normal interactions [calls for service, crime reports].”

Between now and Dec. 21, if you can’t make it to the Pack the Police Car event on Dec. 16, your donations can be dropped off at the police station, 120 E. Baltimore Street. In addition to collecting food donations, each member of Taneytown police is making a personal donation of $25 to purchase additional food items to add to what the community donates.

“This event is important to the Department to be able to connect and give back to the community we serve,” Sakadales said.
