West Carroll: Communities to hold National Night Out events

National Night Out will be celebrated Tuesday, Aug. 7, across the country. According to the National Night Out website, “National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live.”

New Windsor has hosted National Night Out for the local community since 2009. This year’s event will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the New Windsor Carnival Grounds, 101 High St.


Master Deputy Brian Colussy, Carroll County Sherriff’s Community Liaison to New Windsor and Union Bridge, indicated there would be several organizations on hand including Carroll County Department of Housing, Carroll County Health Department, Carroll County State's Attorney's Office, Juvenile Services and the Maryland Department of Environment.

Area law enforcement agencies will also be there, including Baltimore City Watershed Police, Carroll County Sheriff's Office, Department of Natural Resource Police, Maryland State Police and Maryland State Fire Marshall's Office. US Military recruiters will be at the event, along with several civic organizations.

The New Windsor fire company will provide a demonstration.

Live entertainment will be provided by Tony Denikos, a singer and songwriter from the area.

There will be several giveaways throughout the evening as well as a gift card raffle. This is a free event for the public’s enjoyment. For more information on the New Windsor event call New Windsor City Office, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 410-635-6575 or Colussy at 443-547-1305.

Taneytown’s National Night Out Event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Taneytown Fire Department Carnival Grounds, 49 Memorial Drive. When contacted by email, Brian Costello, member of the Taneytown Police Department, indicated this is the third year Taneytown has participated.

Come out to a night of fun for the whole family. Meet neighbors and members of the Police Department and Volunteer Fire Department who serve and protect your community.

Food Lion and Kennies Market donated hot dogs, rolls and bottled water. Taneytown Lions club will serve as hot dog chefs for the evening.

Many Community organizations will be on hand to provide information including Taneytown Main Street, Thunderhead Bowl, Animal Control, Island Green, States Attorney’s Office, Taneytown Library, Adult probation, Carroll County Health Dpt., Anthony’s Way Addiction Services, Sober Truth, US ARMY, Taneytown Dance Studio, and Flicks Pub. The local Verizon store will hold a backpack drawing.

Taneytown fire company personnel and fire department equipment will be on hand. Maryland State Police Crime Scene Personnel will also be on hand. The Masons will be available with computers to do the Children’s Identification Program.

Games include face painting, dunk tank, 40-foot inflatable obstacle course, and pony rides. MSP Trooper 3 Medivac may make an appearance (depending on availability).

New Windsor fire company auxiliary to hold sub sale

The Auxiliary of the New Windsor fire company is currently holding a sub sale. Subs can be ordered by contacting Barbara Misenar at 410-635-8470. The deadline to place your order is Wednesday, Aug. 8. All orders must be picked up at New Windsor Social Hall on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 5 to 7 p.m.

Sub choices include American Cold Cut, Italian Cold Cut, Roast Beef, Ham and Cheese, or Turkey and Cheese. If you prefer pretzel sandwiches, you can choose Ham and Cheese or Turkey and Cheese. Each sub (or sandwich) is $5.50, including condiments on the side and a bag of chips.

Taneytown Museum turns 14

The Taneytown History Museum turns 14 this summer.

Join the celebration, Saturday, Aug. 4. Reminisce your childhood when you visit the current display, “A Century of Toys 1890-1990” and check out the handmade wooden cars, dinosaurs, and old-style wooden tops available for purchase in the museum gift shop. Museum will be open 1 to 4 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

The Taneytown Museum is located at 340 East Baltimore St.
