The numerous bookshelves in my house are loaded down with the likes of Amy Kraus Rosenthal, Gail Carsen Levine, and J.K. Rowling, but our all-time favorite is Theodor Geisel, affectionately known the world over as Dr Seuss.

Students and staff of Francis Scott Key High School invite you to a night filled with Seuss magic, as they perform "Seussical the Musical," based on the works of Dr Seuss.

Performances are scheduled for Friday, April 13, Saturday April 14, Friday, April 20, and Saturday April 21. The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. A matinee show will be held on Saturday, April 14, and Saturday April 21. Curtain for the matinee goes up at 1 p.m. Tickets are $7 for students and senior citizens. Adults tickets are $10. Discount pricing is available for groups of ten or more at a single performance.

Bring your imagination and spend some time with Jojo (played by Lily Freundel) and Cat in the Hat, (played by Justin Patterson), who will take you on an adventure-filled journey through more than a dozen of Dr. Seuss' best loved stories.

The entire production includes a cast of nearly 40 members. Principle cast members include Zach Brown as Horton the Elephant, Michaela Odaan as Gertrude McFuzz, Darian Blackiston as Mayzie the Bird, Jacksun Lane and Caroline Freundel as the Mayor of Whoville and his wife, Parker Arenz as General Ghengis Kahn Schmitz. Eric Gabriel, Matt Thomas and Alexander "Xander" Parrott will play the Wickersham brothers. The Doo-wop Supreme-like Bird Girls will be portrayed by Kayla Hornby, Val Schneider and Maddie Schiavi. Jasmine Snair will play the Sour Kangaroo.

Music will be provided by members of FSK's instrumental music program under the direction of Matt Lamb, choral music teacher at FSK. Choreography will be under the direction of Rachel Kemp. Costume designer is Grace Hoyas, a member of the staff at FSK. Additional support for the production comes from the FSK Choral and Drama Boosters.

The production is under the direction of Roberta Gore, a teacher at FSK, assisted by Amberly Mayle, a member of the FSK senior class. Gore spoke of the production with much enthusiasm. She applauded the dedication of the cast and crew.

She couldn't quell her enthusiasm when she spoke about the orchestra saying, "Our orchestra for the show, conducted by Matt Lamb, is outstanding. The orchestra never takes a break in this show, as music underscores every moment of the show."

Mayle who took on the role of assistant director for the first time, said she was inspired by the cast.

"Everyone seems to fit their character perfectly and connect with their castmates extremely well," she said. "I was also very inspired because many of our leads, including Horton and Jojo, are young underclassmen. It made me very excited to see that we have a lot of young talent in our program."

Gore indicated the show pays tribute to Dr. Seuss and "it pays tribute to our best human characteristic — our capacity to imagine."

After each of the Saturday afternoon matinees, there will be a Green Eggs and Ham Party, held in the FSK cafeteria, hosted by the FSK Drama Club. Party starts at 3:30 P.M. Attendees will have the opportunity to talk to members of the cast and crew. Admission for this event is $10 for kids in kindergarten through fifth grade. $10 Ticket price includes a souvenir. Adults and older siblings ticket price is $2 (does not include the souvenir). Please note: Anyone who wants the souvenir will need to pay the $10 price.

To purchase tickets to any of the "Seussical the Musical" performances or the Green Eggs and Ham Party online, visit the website www.fskchoraldramaboosters.com. Tickets will also be sold at the door.

There is excitement and magic growing at FSK High School. Gore summed it up best when she said: "Yes, it is going to be a really terrific, exciting, beautiful show!!"
