West Carroll: FSK groups holding fundraisers; Emmanuel (Baust) UCC hosting spaghetti dinner, Easter egg hunt

The Francis Scott Key High School Advisory Council and Academic Boosters are selling tickets for the Gem Cupcakes fundraiser to benefit the Advisory Council programs currently in place.

In this cupcake sale, every fourth cupcake has a gem baked inside and one lucky ticket holder will win a ½-caret diamond.


Tickets, $5 each or 5 tickets for $20, can be purchased at DK Jewelers, at 15 S. Cranberry Road in Westminster; Stonehouse Cakery and Café, at 12 E. Baltimore St. in Taneytown; or Francis Scott Key High, at 3825 Bark Hill Road in Union Bridge.

The event, originally started by Kim Stem, former assistant principal at FSK, is sponsored in part by DK Jewelers and Stonehouse Cakery and Café. You can redeem your tickets at DK Jewelers during their normal business hours, May 8 through 11. The ½-caret diamond was donated by DK Jewelers.


Michelle Brilhart, video/technology education and art teacher at FSK said, “The FSK Advisory Council and Academic Boosters support the success of FSK students by building relationships with the surrounding community, showcasing all of our students, and harnessing the resources of the community.”

Advisory Council programs include Wall of Excellence, a Hall of Fame recognition for graduates of FSK, a Veterans Day Assembly and Recognition Day, as well as scholarship funding for students taking the AP tests.

The organization is open to the community and currently includes parents, alumni, local business partners, local political officials and FSK staff members.

Emmanuel (Baust) UCC to host spaghetti dinner

Emmanuel (Baust) United Church of Christ will host a spaghetti dinner, Saturday, March 30, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church, at 2950 Old Taneytown Road in Tyrone.

The Taneytown Heritage and History Museum Association is busy putting together its 2019 display titled “World War II Impacts Hometown.”

The meal comes with a choice of tomato sauce with meat or marinara sauce, plus dessert and drinks.

ickets are $10 for adults if reservations are made by March 27. Tickets for children 6 to 12 years old are $5.

FSK’s SGA holding Mixed Bag Designs fundraiser

The Francis Scott Key High School Student Government Association is currently holding an online Mixed Bag Designs fundraiser through April 11.

The Student Government Association is responsible for a variety of school events including homecoming, and school spirit, as well as FSK T-shirts for every student each year. They are currently working to raise funds to purchase two water fountain/purifying/filling stations to be located within the school for students and staff.

Emmanuel (Baust) UCC announces Easter egg hunt

Emmanuel (Baust) United Church of Christ Christian Education will host a community Easter egg hunt, Saturday, April 13, from 1 to 3 p.m.

All members of the community who are fifth-graders or younger are invited to participate. The church is at 2950 Old Taneytown Road in Tyrone.

In addition to the egg hunt, participants will enjoy a variety of crafts and coloring projects. Refreshments will be served including fresh fruit and veggies, cupcakes, and chips. Drinks will be provided.
