Get ready for this year’s Run 4 Kids Challenge in Eldersburg.

This June 1, the Run 4 Kids Challenge will be celebrating seven years fundraising in our area to fight pediatric cancer and other diseases.

This year, they will be hosting three different challenges: the school challenge led by Freedom Elementary School, the club challenge by Eldersburg Rogue Runners, and the gym challenge.

They will also have 4K and 10K run challenges, and the participants will be able to pick between the two or be part of both.

According to Bob Sommerville, the organizer of this event, 100% of the entry fees go toward kids who are fighting pediatric cancer.

Sommerville is also very proud of the work they have done throughout the years. He said that last year, they had over 100 participants and close to 40 volunteers.

Sommerville also emphasized that it is important for everyone in the community to be part of this event because it is a great cause and because it is a good way to get the kids involved in a positive activity and it is a good way to give back to those in need.

The kids will be “helping themselves while helping others,” Sommerville said.

Everyone is welcome to participate, not just kids. All of the participants will receive a T-shirt, and all of the elementary- and middle-school finishers will receive medals.

They will have special prizes for the winners, and they will be providing refreshments to all participants.

The attendees will also be able to participate in raffles to win restaurant gift cards, handcrafted jewelry box and more. Individual tickets for the raffle will be $3 each or four tickets for $10.

The event starts at 8:15 a.m. For more information or to register, please visit the Run 4 Kids Challenge website, running4kids.org, or contact Sommerville at run4kids@verizon.net.

The event will be hosted at Freedom Park in Eldersburg.
