South Carroll: Wards Chapel UMC celebrates annual auction on March 3

Bidding begins at last year's Wards Chapel United Methodist Church auction. This year's event is scheduled for March 3.

Wards Chapel United Methodist Church has been serving the community for more than 200 years and the church hosts an auction every year to give back to the community and support mission projects for those in need. This year’s event is set for Saturday, March 3.

Susan Farnum, the Mission chairperson, stated in an email interview that there is a whole team behind this event that has collaborated to make this auction happen and help the community with the proceeds.

According to Farnum, they will be hosting the auction with a professional auctioneer and in the same room, there will also be several tables of items that will be awarded based on silent auction bidding.

“It's a lot of fun with friendly, competitive bidding and there are good deals to be had,” stated Farnum.

Here are some of the items they will be offering throughout the event:

The church received the donation of 4 tickets to the Friday, March 16 Washington Capitals vs. the New York Islanders game at the Capital One Arena in Washington, valued at $236.

Also, they have many gift cards for restaurants and other businesses in the Carroll County/Baltimore County area including Green's Ace Hardware, Los Aztecas, The Grill at Harryman House, and many more.

They will be offering ski or adventure packages from Liberty Mountain, Roundtop Mountain, and White Tail resorts. In addition, they will have passes for activities such as Adventure Park, Catoctin Wildlife Preserve, Frederick Keys game, and Toby's Dinner Theater.

They will also have a Pandora bracelet with two charms from Smyth Jewelers and a toy metal truck and construction equipment from Tractor Supply.

Additionally, they will have used items like an electric guitar, a bicycle, a crossbow, Christmas decor, large animal shaped pillows, collectibles, and furniture.

For the lovers of sweets, they will have fresh baked goods.

Farnum also explained that they will offer a Comprehensive Financial Plan prepared by several local financial advisors, which is valued at $1,200.

Farnum stated that there is something for everyone at the auction.

The proceeds will go to the Camp Hope in western Maryland, with the youth programs and the Baltimore County Christian Work Camp.

This auction will also benefit the Chappy’s Outdoors, which is a program that conducts an outdoor retreat as therapy for veterans, and the ZOE Ministries, which helps orphans in Africa become independent adults.

The church will also help the Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry.

The donors will be recognized during the auction and their names will be posted on the website.

Those interested in donating for next year’s auction are welcome to do so starting the first Sunday in January of each year and the auction is always held the first Saturday in March.

Throughout the event, people will be able to purchase soup and sandwiches, snacks, sodas, coffee, and desserts.

The event starts at 4 p.m. for more information, you may contact Susan Farnum at her email,
