This Feb. 4 starts the Good News Club (GNC) at Piney Ridge Elementary School, where children from kindergarten through fifth grade will be able to learn about the Bible through many fun activities every Monday that the school is open from 3:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.
Darlene Ely, the leader of the Good News Club (GNC) at the elementary school, stated in an email interview, that GNC is a free club that meets weekly after school across America.
She explained that it is exciting and fun and “it emphasizes respect for authority, moral values and character development based on Biblical principles.”
Ely stated that this is not the first time the club has been hosted in our county; however, this is the first time she will be leading the club. She started this new idea of leading the club with one of her friends and her husband. She then contacted the leaders for Carroll County as well as the Administration at the school to start the program.
According to Ely, the GNC is sponsored by the organization, Child Evangelism Fellowship, and they currently have nine other clubs that meet throughout the county.
Throughout the program, every Monday, she stated that they will have games, snacks, songs, crafts and a Bible lesson for the students.
“It is a fun-filled time for the children and it complements the parent’s teaching of respect for authority, moral values and character development,” explained Ely. “The purpose is to emphasize respect for authority, moral values and character development based on Biblical principles.”
If you are interested in having your kids join the program, you must fill out a registration form prior to attending the club. The forms are available at the elementary school in the display rack across from the office.
Piney Ridge Elementary School is located at 6315 Freedom Ave., Eldersburg.
