Wow. So as I type this, we were to have had several inches of snow and some ice and rain. Thankfully the storm that came from the west decided to hit farther north and missed us. We did get the rain, and lots of wind, but not much snow.
And as you’re reading this, we only have one day left of January — which means we’re getting closer to spring and warmer weather. Warmer weather means more activities and events — I’ve found some events via social media and websites but am still hoping for all of you to send me information as it becomes available on your organization’s events.

SGE playground fundraising
Since March 2018, Spring Garden Elementary has been raising funds for a new playground. Many schools hold various fundraisers throughout the school year, most of which are to benefit the PTA/PTO at their school.
While SGE does host similar events for their PTA, the fundraisers being held for the playground are separate. There have been inquires regarding the reason for the project, and according to a press release from the school, “While it currently passes inspection and is deemed safe for students, we were notified last March that the playground would likely not last more than 2 to 3 years (which is now 1.5-2 years).”
The release continued by stating that, “The school system is unable to fund replacement playgrounds, so it is up to the school community to raise the funds if the playground is going to be replaced. A new playground is expected to cost approximately $100,000.”
The school has held various fundraisers already and have many more planned. One of the opportunities is to make donations, which could include recognition on the dedication sign.
They just ended two fundraisers, selling Papa John’s cards of which $10 out of $15 went to the playground fund; and the school sold playground T-shirts as well. Currently they are working on a Glow Run event, to be held Feb. 7 at the school.
Additional upcoming events/fundraisers may include a Date Night at Four Seasons, a golf tournament, and the sale of tickets to Hersheypark.
The golf tournament is slated for May 18 at Oakmont Green Golf Course. Tee time is 7:30 a.m. The cost is $360 for a foursome; and $90 per person. For information or to register, call the school or visit www.carroll12.org/sge.
As of Jan. 16, they have raised more than $32,000 for the playground fund. The press release stated, “We are trying to provide families with a variety of fundraising opportunities, and we don't want to burden anyone. We appreciate each and every dollar raised!”
