Look for fellowship, good food, and toe-tapping music when Baust United Church of Christ holds their annual Antique Car and Tractor Show and Peach Festival, Saturday, Aug. 18.

The festival will be held at the church — 2950 Old Taneytown Road in Westminster — from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Church secretary Helen Miller said it will be a fun day for all.

“This is our third year to hold this event,” she said. “We will have nine or 10 artsy-craftsy type vendors on hand selling items. There’s food and antique cars and tractors, a bake sale table and music, too.”

Miller said last year several hundred people stopped by from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“And we had 40-plus cars,” she said. “There is no charge to get in, but if you want to enter an antique vehicle there is a $5 entry fee [in advance] or $8 fee on the day of the show.”

Church member Russell Raver will deejay music from the 1950s and ’60s, livening up the day. Food will be offered for sale as well.

“We will have hotdogs, chili dogs, barbecue, peach sundaes, and a baked table with all kinds of cookies, cakes, brownies and maybe even fudge,” said Miller. “And of course, we will have chips, sodas and that kind of thing. It is more like light fare.”

In addition, a painting of the church will be raffled off at this event.

“Our minister’s wife, Cathy Dull, is a very artistic person,” Miller said. “I don’t think there is anything this woman can’t do. She is very talented. She has painted a watercolor picture of our church. It is beautiful.”

Miller said the winning ticket will be drawn close to 3 p.m., but you don’t have to be there to win. Raffle tickets cost $2 each or three for $5.

“Our church is known for its hospitality,” Miller said when asked why folks will love this event. “Everyone says they have never seen a church as friendly as ours. Also, the money we raise will go towards our [upcoming] mission trip. We have good food and it is just a fun day.”

St. John’s annual Peach Festival

St. John’s Lutheran Church will hold its annual Peach Festival on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 3:30 to 8 p.m. at the church, 827 Leister’s Church Road in Westminster.

“This event has been held for over 100 years,” said church member Nancy Dean. “It was called a ‘picnic’ for many years and included a fried chicken dinner. Some of the older members remember horses and carriages being lined up on Leister's Church Road for the annual picnic.”

Dean said about 250 attend their annual picnic. For many years, the picnic featured a hymn singing session. These days, the music is provided by favorite outside bands, but everyone is still invited to attend.

This rain or shine event features games for children, good food, music and fellowship for all who attend.

“The games are geared to children under age 10,” Dean said. “Bean bag toss, ring toss, and lucky ducks are some of the options that the children have. The prizes include small trinkets and candy.”

Look for plenty to eat with a menu that includes turkey corn soup, turkey salad sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, beef barbecue, pulled pork barbecue, peaches and ice cream, peach cobbler and a variety of yummy baked goods. Dean said peach cobbler is always their most popular dessert. Fifty percent of the profit from this festival will be given to the Energy Assistance Fund in Carroll County and to Access Carroll.

Get your jam going by listening to music throughout the afternoon. The Never Too Late Band will play from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., followed by the Alesia Band from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Those who attend should bring lawn chairs, to sit back and relax while enjoying the music, the food and more. For more information, call 410-848-2140.

Sixth annual yART Sale

When a yard sale features art items only, the Carroll Arts Center calls it a yART Sale. The sixth annual yART Sale will be held at the Carroll Arts Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 18, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19.

Look for “previously enjoyed” art, art books and art supplies at this shopping extravaganza. Susan Williamson, the visual arts coordinator, has been grouping some items for sale.

“We will have boxes and contents for sale,” she said of these items. “I’ve been making some for drawing, and I just made a box for a painting with some paints and a palette and a book on how to paint.”

When asked what sort of items a shopper will find at this event, Williamson said, “If a person has been a painter, we see a lot of their prints. We get some poster art. We get some art that is the type you would see in Bed, Bath and Beyond. We get art supplies and a few unfinished projects.”

Williamson said things will be marked with prices on Saturday, but Sunday is “pay what you want to pay day.”

When asked why people should check this sale out, Williamson said, “Because it supports the art center.’

The Carroll Art Center is located at 91 W. Main St., Westminster. For more information or to donate to this fundraiser, contact the Carroll Arts Center at 410-848-7272.
